Team India delivered a stunning performance at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday night, crushing Zimbabwe by 72 runs in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match. This crucial victory has kept India's semi-final hopes alive.

India's Historic Batting Display

After being sent in to bat first by Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, India produced an extraordinary batting performance. India posted 256/4 against Zimbabwe — the highest total of this edition, and the second-highest in T20 World Cup history.

Abhishek Sharma and Hardik Pandya were the stars with the bat. Sharma scored his maiden T20 World Cup half-century — 55 off 30 balls — while Pandya blazed to 50 off just 23 balls, striking two sixes off the last two deliveries.

Zimbabwe's Chase Falls Short

Zimbabwe never came close to the massive target. Despite a valiant effort from Brian Bennett, Zimbabwe trudged along to 184/6 in 20 overs, never really threatening the target. (Business Standard) Bennett scored an unbeaten 97 but could not save his team from defeat.

For India, Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/24 in four overs.
